April 19, 2025Google’s Search Dominance Remains Untouched Despite AI Buzz

With all the talk about AI tools like ChatGPT disrupting traditional search engines, one might assume Google’s market share has taken a significant hit. But recent research paints a very different picture. According to a new analysis from SparkToro co-founder Rand Fishkin, Google Search remains overwhelmingly dominant — handling 373 times more searches than ChatGPT in 2024.
In fact, Google’s search volume grew by over 21% last year, with more than 5 trillion searches processed, maintaining a staggering 93.57% market share. Even if every one of ChatGPT’s 1 billion daily messages counted as a search, its total share of the search market would still fall under 1%. This reality confirms what many suspected: while AI chatbots are gaining attention, they haven’t replaced traditional search behavior on any meaningful scale.
That said, a growing number of searches on Google are ending without a click, as AI Overviews and instant answers provide quick results directly on the platform. For moving companies and service providers relying on web traffic, this trend highlights the importance of optimizing for visibility within search results themselves — not just clicks to a website.
